CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Meadowbrook Mall held a ceremony Wednesday to welcome Boscov’s, a department store that will be coming to the mall in Bridgeport this fall.

The new store will be an anchor for the mall, according to officials, as the new 151,000-square-foot location will be the largest department store in the area.

This will be the first Boscov’s in West Virginia, and the company is aiming to create about 250 jobs, according to Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov’s.

Anthony Cafaro Jr., president of the Cafaro Co., which owns Meadowbrook Mall, also took part in the ceremony.

“We’re very excited. This has been several years in the making,” he said, thanking the community for continuing to support the mall.

“This is a growing community with great businesses, with great folks, and we’re so proud to be able to announce today the biggest and the best new retailer to enter this community,” Cafaro said.

The Bridgeport location will be the 50th for Boscov’s, which is based in the northeastern United States and headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania.

“I want to thank you for inviting us to join you at the Meadowbrook Mall,” Boscov said.

“When we expand, we don’t hopscotch around the country. When we grow, we push out the boundaries a little bit more because it’s very important that people have a sense of who we are. Fifty is a nice round number. I’m very proud that we’re able to grow one store a year,” he said.

With the other 49 stores operating in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Ohio, Boscov’s is the nation’s largest family-owned department store chain. It has been in operation for 109 years.

According to Boscov’s officials, the new store will offer an expansive selection of departments, as well as amenities such as free gift-wrap supplies, a year-round military discount, a gift registry for every occasion, curbside pickup and a hassle-free return policy.

Along with clothing and other traditional merchandise, the store will feature toys, furniture, a gift department and a full-service candy department.

“We have the advantage of being a family-owned business. That means we can make decisions and work to please the customer, not the stock market,” Boscov said.

“We still believe in the traditional department store, where in one shopping trip, you can find everything you want. North Central West Virginia is going to see some very aggressive retailing that combines fun, fashion, community partnership, entertainment and service with jaw-dropping pricing throughout the store,” Boscov said.
